About Blink Twice

Blink Twice is the creator of the Tango, the world's most innovative speech-generating device. The Tango combines cutting-edge technology and the latest clinical insight to create unprecedented opportunities for individuals with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, ALS and other conditions.

Founded by a Father

Blink Twice was founded by Richard Ellenson, whose son Thomas has severe Cerebral Palsy. As a former advertising executive, Richard helped launch the American Express Corporate Card and wrote one of the industry's most famous lines, "It's not TV. It's HBO." As Richard watched his son grow, he felt that Thomas, and the many other children who shared his son's special needs, would need better tools if they were to reach their potential, and so he reached out to both world class companies and the industry's best professionals to develop a new AAC device. Richard and his wife Lora have also been active advocates for their child and all children with special needs. They have worked with NYC's Department of Education to create a new inclusion program in the City's School Systems. This program has been featured on CBS News, Fox News, the front cover of The New York Times Sunday Magazine, and in a commercial for Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Richard and Lora were named as "2006 Caregivers of the Year" by United Cerebral Palsy of New York.

Collaboration with the Field's Leading Clinicians

Blink Twice's products provide not only technological innovation, but also highly innovative language organization because of our outreach to the field's top professionals and clinicians. The Tango's innovative Phrase First Language Structure was developed working with Pati King-DeBaun, Dr. Karen Erickson, Caroline Musselwhite, and Patrick Brune. Our innovative "Two Hit" Spelling Keyboard was created in collaboration with Dr. Karen Erickson and Sally Clendon. Tango Stories were created by Caroline Musselwhite and Linda Burkhart. And scanning was developed in conjunction with Linda Burkhart.

Supported by the Blue Chip Companies

Blink Twice is unique in the world of Assistive Technology in that it has developed its products working with many of the world's most powerful companies. The Tango is built by Flextronics, which makes the Xbox 360, plus half of the world's cell phones, so that you are assured of durability. It was designed by Frog Design, who worked on early Mac Computers, plus Disney's current Consumer Electronics line. And our content gained the benefit of insights from Nickelodeon and Hasbro. No wonder our product is so amazing. We got help from amazing companies.

Success

In only one year, Blink Twice has firmly established itself not only as a leader in AAC, but in the Assistive Technology Field. NIH-funded research has shown that the Tango allows for faster communication and, critically, increased perceptions of users' abilities. The company's success has been featured in media from Exceptional Parent Magazine to CNBC Squawk Box, to ABC World News tonight.
