The vast options for AAC

As any good clinician knows, there are a wide range of supports that can be used to enhance communication for individuals who use AAC. Strategies run a continuum: from low tech to lite tech to high tech, and they are the foundation for providing more opportunities in engagement, learning, and communication for all children. All clinicians share moments of triumph and frustration as they work with a range of individuals. They work in intense one-to-one settings, and in environments that are inclusive and social. But, of course, any good strategy includes both supporting communication for "now" as well as developing communication supports for "tomorrow." The path to language is complex. And so too is the path to communication.

The Tango was created with the support of some of the country's leading clinicians and educators, such as Dr. Karen Erickson and Pati King-DeBaun, and it has brought together the strategies they, and other strong clinicians have found most successful. And their goal was clearly stated: to create a solid communication foundation, with a powerful, robust, easy-to-use, and engaging communication tool that could stimulate early communication and support growing communication.

One of our central beliefs at Blink Twice is that the goal of communication is to be understood and to be included - at all stages of one's life. It is that mission that drives every one of our approaches. We believe AAC should be designed to motivate people to speak and motivate others to listen.
